Empowering Namibia’s Green Future: APODISSI Champions Environmental and Digital Skills for TVET

The APODISSI team in Namibia, as a proud partner of SUSTAIN-IT—an Erasmus+ Capacity Building Project for African VET schools co-funded by the European Commission—continues its mission to integrate green innovation into vocational education and training.

In Windhoek, Namibia, APODISSI led two dynamic design thinking sessions with trainers and students from the Clocknet Vocational Training Center. These interactive workshops explored pressing local environmental challenges, community-driven climate actions, and the application of technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT) to monitor air and water pollution. Participants also delved into current capacity-building efforts designed to empower students with practical, future-proof skills.

As part of SUSTAIN-IT wider knowledge-sharing ambition, Margherita Trestini, General Manager of Apodissi, moderated an expert online session dedicated to African TVET organisations. The session focused on strengthening environmental and digital competencies, embedding green practices in TVET institutions, and making use of open-source training materials for green job readiness across the continent. Looking ahead, Adriano Mauro, Apodissi Co-Founder, will conduct an in-depth, in-person training at Clocknet school in Windhoek. This hands-on session will cover the use of environmental monitoring tools such as Arduino dashboards and sensors to collect and analyse data. Focusing on water, air, and sand quality, the training will equip local TVET trainers with valuable tools for environmental research and education.

“Our aim, now, is to engage the Namibian Council of the National Qualification Authority (NQA) to promote the adoption of the SUSTAIN-IT training curriculum in the fields of Agriculture and Natural Conservation,” says Margherita Trestini. “The absence of digital and environmental training modules within Namibia’s TVET system creates a critical skills gap—one that holds back students’ potential and limits green job creation. Through this initiative, we are working to bridge that gap and build a skilled, environmentally conscious workforce ready to drive Namibia’s sustainable transformation.”
