Rwanda presents itself as a country with a forward-thinking innovation ecosystem, from its non-nylon policy to eco-friendly trash cans, it is evident that the government has adopted a model of environmental awareness, digital integration, and sustainability.

Specifically, the country’s approach to TVET education is deeply integrated with the need to promote environmental awareness. The Greening Schools initiative and collaboration with Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) demonstrate the country’s deliberate action toward integrating sustainability in education. An example is the Don Bosco TVET school that uses training manuals and guidelines, inclusive actions like environmental clubs in the school, primary and secondary schools, and community engagement to reinforce these actions. The country serves as a benchmark for technology-driven education and environmental consciousness.
Recently, Apodissi joined other project partners in Rwanda to gain insights on the level of awareness on environmental issues, climate change and the digital applications used in the TVET schools through the Sustain-IT project. These insights shed light on critical challenges and opportunities within Rwanda’s TVET sector and prepare the project partner with relevant resources in the development of an educational toolkit that will be helpful to monitor the environment, identify local challenges, and create impactful solutions to combat climate change.
Apodissi is the leader of the communication and dissemination activities of the project as well as the exploitation of the project. In a round table discussion on the exploitation plan of the project led by Blessing Sorinola, a Communication specialist in the company. She highlights the company’s plan to harness the project’s impact through the smart step platform, an e-learning platform through which all TVET educators and trainers in Africa will have access to the MOOC modules developed from the project.
This is relevant especially for Nigeria and Namibia where Apodissi operates, as both countries seek to enhance its environmental education and digital tools in various TVET systems. With our involvement in this project, we aim to strengthen partnerships and implement sustainable digital education initiatives that will support environmental awareness and skills development across Europe and Africa.
